Thanksgiving Week in Inlet Beach Has an Almost-Nightly Soundtrack, and It's a Walk Under Highway 98

  • November 5, 2026

30Avenue's event calendar lists a band on the Green for eight of the nine nights from Saturday, Nov. 21 through Sunday, Nov. 29. Daylight saving time ended on Nov. 1, and sunset that week falls at 4:44 or 4:43 p.m. The stage sits on the north side of U.S. 98, so on most of those nights the walk from the beach side happens after dark.

For most of the last decade, the trip from the beach side to 30Avenue started with car keys. Since Labor Day weekend 2024, it can start with a walk through a 136-foot tunnel. With houseguests in town and short days, that tunnel is what makes a week of free live music feel close to home.

Nine nights, one lawn, mostly after dark

30Avenue's calendar lists acts on the Green across the holiday stretch. With sunset before 4:45 all week, any show that starts in the evening starts after dark. The early-week dates make good first nights out with visiting family, before the holiday crowd fills 30A.

The acts cover a lot of ground. The calendar describes The Sand Ole Opry as a rock band from South Walton, 30A, Grayton Beach and Seaside, with influences that include Bob Dylan, The Band, The Beatles and John Prine. Mark Payne is a Panama City Beach musician who plays songs from the '60s and '70s. Hunter Dawson plays reggae and pop on the Green. Cadillac Willy has played the Gulf Coast since 2000, with Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers and the Grateful Dead in the mix. On Thanksgiving night, The Salty Strays bring guitar, violin and bass, with songs from Bob Seger and Tom Petty to Chris Stapleton and Bob Marley. Tyler James, a Louisiana native who has played around Panama City since 2016, closes out the week on Sunday.

Friday's Otha Allen Band show is the only one listed with a start time, 4 p.m., which is the one chance all week to hear music on the Green before dark. In October, the 30Avenue concert series on the Green ran 7 to 10 p.m., according to SoWal's event listing. Check the 30Avenue calendar on the day for each show's time. The calendar also asks guests to bring low-back chairs and blankets.

The 136-foot way across U.S. 98

The underpass runs beneath U.S. 98 at the 30A intersection. Its south approach starts near Shades Bar & Grill and the route comes out at 30Avenue, 12805 U.S. 98. It is 136 feet long, 12 feet wide and 8 feet high, WMBB reported as it was being built. Construction started in March 2021, according to the Northwest Florida Daily News. The Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County describes the tunnel as part of a $5.6 million FDOT project. Scenic Walton led the effort with FDOT, Walton County officials and Walton County Tourism.

Two years in, the north side is noticing the foot traffic. In an August 2026 article from Scenic America, 30Avenue developer Bryan Corr explained that people reached the center before the underpass too, but most of them drove.

"Traffic into 30Avenue was not limited by the highway. But more people chose to drive instead of bike or walk."

Corr told Scenic America that pedestrian and bike traffic has grown since the underpass opened. He also said tenants have asked for more bike parking "to reduce the number of bikes parked by their front door." He described a pattern he calls "bike-to-dinner" traffic: riders heading north from the beach communities around sunset. In late November, with sunset a little after 4:40, that ride comes well before most dinner reservations. In the same article, Corr put the bigger picture in one line: "Inlet Beach 10 years ago was a tale of two towns, the North and the South."

What's on the tunnel walls

The walk is short, and there's art the whole way. The Cultural Arts Alliance commissioned 10 murals for the underpass:

  • Tangled by Lindsay Tobias
  • Local Love by Heather Clements
  • Culmination by Sarah Page
  • Day in the Life by Andy Saczynski
  • Untitled by Andrea Scurto
  • Coastal Currents: Lives in Motion by Olga Guy
  • Look At Us Now! by Wes Hinds
  • Phoning Home by Bradley Copeland
  • Untitled by Katherine Boggs
  • Summer Dream by Francisco Adaro

Two sculptures sit at the entrances: Common Chord by Vince Tatum and The Grayt Pineapple by Rachel Herring McCord. If your family is visiting for the holiday and hasn't been through the tunnel, take the walk there slowly. On the way home, after the last song, most people just want to get back.

Dinner before the first set

The Green sits in the middle of 30Avenue's restaurants, so you can eat and hear the music without moving the car, or without ever having had one there. The center's directory lists Aja Elevated Asian, Amici 30A Italian Kitchen, Amigo's 30A Mexican Kitchen, Canopy Road Cafe, Cuvee 30A, Goatfeathers Seafood Market, Obscure Wine Company and Proper Restaurant & Bar, along with Great American Cookies and Marble Slab Creamery for dessert.

A few fit a holiday-week night especially well:

  1. Cuvee 30A, from chef Tim Creehan, serves dishes like Amy Grant's Seared Tuna Rare and Vince Gill's Pecan Crusted Grouper, alongside an award-winning wine list.
  2. Goatfeathers has served seafood since 1988. At its 30Avenue outpost, fish is sold by the pound to eat at the cafe or take home. That second option helps the morning after Thanksgiving, when nobody wants to cook.
  3. Proper Restaurant & Bar, formerly Idyll Hound Proper, is at 12805 US-98 E101. Its site lists Monday through Thursday hours of 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 1 a.m., plus happy hour, weekend brunch and a late-night series called Proper After Dark.
  4. Canopy Road Cafe covers the other end of the day, with Fat Elvis pancakes and skillets for the morning after a late show.

Amici and Amigo's, sister restaurants a few steps apart, work for groups that don't agree on dinner. Obscure Wine Company appears in the directory as both a shop and a dining stop, which makes it an easy place to pick up a bottle for the Thanksgiving table on the way home.

Two dinners on the calendar before the holiday rush

Thanksgiving week isn't the only reason to walk north this month. On Saturday, Nov. 14, 30Avenue's calendar lists two ticketed dinners on the same night: a Dakota Shy wine dinner at Cuvee 30A and a six-course Menagerie Wines dinner at Aja, which pairs Asian-inspired cuisine with wine and art. On Wednesday, Dec. 9, Cuvee 30A hosts a PlumpJack wine dinner. Menus and tickets are on the 30Avenue calendar.

At The Kendall Hood Collection, we keep track of how Inlet Beach's two sides of U.S. 98 fit together, from the tunnel walk to the nights the Green fills up.
